The Presbytery of Denver
The Presbytery of Denver endeavors to grow its congregations in new, larger, deeper, and more creative ways.
The role of the Stated Clerk is unique in this presbytery. The Stated Clerk is a full-time position. The staffing design of the Presbytery of Denver is unique theologically and philosophically, enabling the Presbytery Pastor ("Presbytery Executive") to be more personally involved with minister members and individual congregations, thereby redirecting some administrative functions typically handled by a Presbytery Executive. The Stated Clerk is also the Ecumenical Officer and official spokesperson for the Presbytery, when needed.
The Presbytery of Denver seeks a Stated Clerk to assist the presbytery in sponsoring a wide array of ministry responses in a complex world:
In support of existing congregations, the Presbytery of Denver encourages the revitalization of churches. Congregations form mission partnerships and covenant communities in order to collaborate in addressing the needs they identify both locally and globally; and leadership skills are enhanced through regular leadership workshops for both congregational and clergy leaders. The Stated Clerk may assist in real estate transactions for congregations rethinking the role of property in their ministries.
New expressions of the Church are taking shape all around the presbytery. New Worshiping Communities are taking on new and varied forms of church for our changing culture. Congregations are forming around cultural clusters with Vietnamese, Myanmar, Spanish and Swahili-language worshiping communities meeting regularly. Working with the Presbytery Pastor for New Church Development and Multi-Racial Ministries, the Stated Clerk helps these creative congregations to structure their ministries within the freedom of our polity.
The Presbytery of Denver is engaged in world mission. Through the Presbytery of Denver's formal partnership with the Presbytery of Zimbabwe (PZDP), these two governing bodies are serving communities side-by-side, both locally and abroad. Mission partnerships formed by congregations are banding together to address global needs, so congregations are experiencing direct relationship to the body of Christ around the world. The Stated Clerk offers ecclesiastical guidance to the PZDP partnership.
Seeking a Stated Clerk Who Will:
Carry a deep regard for how the polity of our Church brings wisdom and preserves order, and uses that knowledge to encourage new forms of creative expressions of ministry.
Be able to interpret the intentions of our polity so as to help congregations and committees desire to work within and benefit from its formidable wisdom.
Collaborate with presbytery staff, congregations, and committees regarding how our polity can help them accomplish their goals.
Fulfill the office of Stated Clerk in a collegial manner, working alongside our Presbytery Pastor, understanding, valuing, and supporting the wisdom that each brings to the shared leadership of the Presbytery of Denver.
Creatively support new worshiping communities while helping these communities to function within the guidelines of our polity.
The term will be from March 24, 2020 to the March 2023 Presbytery Assembly. The minimum annual effective salary for this position is $60,000, commensurate with experience and gifts.
