Please join us for our Annual Minister's Advent Luncheon
Join us for a special gathering as Colorado Council of Churches Executive Director Adrian Miller shares stories from his latest book The President’s Kitchen Cabinet: The Story of the African Americans Who Have Fed Our First Families from the Washingtons to the Obamas. These amazing cooks were celebrated culinary artists, family confidants and civil rights advocates. You’ll hear about President Washington’s free steward Samuel Fraunces and enslaved cook Hercules; how an enslaved cook named James Hemings nourished Thomas Jefferson’s love for macaroni and cheese; how a woman named Daisy Bonner got President Franklin D. Roosevelt hooked on southern food, especially pig’s feet, and how President Lyndon Johnson’s cook Zephyr Wright became an inspiration for the 1964 Civil Rights Acts. Those stories and more will be featured at our lunch.
