Lunch and Learn for August Assembly

Building on the powerful conversations and themes from our April MRTI Assembly gathering, we invite you to join us for a special Pre-Assembly Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, June 3rd at 11:30 AM:

Walking with the Least of These: Engaging in the Work of Poverty Eradication through the Ministry of Self-Development of People (SDOP)

We are honored to welcome presenters Alonzo T. Johnson (he/him/his), Manager for the Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People/Restorative Justice with Presbyterian Life & Witness, and Margaret Mwale, Associate for Community Development and Constituent Relations with SDOP. Together, they bring deep experience in restorative justice, community development, congregational engagement, and grassroots anti-poverty work within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and local communities.

Together we will explore how poverty impacts all of us within the U.S. context and how issues such as affordable housing, homelessness, and immigration intersect with the church’s call to justice and compassion. Participants will learn about the history and ongoing anti-poverty work of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Self-Development of People ministry and discover practical ways to engage these issues in their own communities.

This Lunch & Learn will:

  • Examine pressing poverty issues facing communities today

  • Highlight how SDOP community partners are addressing these challenges

  • Equip participants with strategies for local engagement and direct action

  • Invite us into deeper reflection on how we walk alongside “the least of these”

Come ready to learn, reflect, and imagine faithful ways we can participate in the work of justice and hope together.

We look forward to sharing this important conversation with you.
