Spiritually Informed Trauma Care Workshop

Dear Pastoral Leaders of Denver Presbytery,

Easter Blessings!

I am writing to invite you to a special gathering for all pastoral leaders of our presbytery on Friday, May 15th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Presbytery Office. Lunch will be provided following the session.

We are privileged to welcome The Rev. Dr. Carrie Doehring, a renowned expert in trauma-informed awareness, who will lead us in an experiential workshop. This workshop is thoughtfully designed to help us explore what trauma-informed care looks like—not just as we care for our congregations and committees, but also as we care for ourselves.  Read Carrie’s bio→

You might wonder….Why This Gathering Matters

As pastoral leaders, I fully recognize how difficult it is to carry the weight of leadership in these complicated and challenging times. The statistics are staggering:

  • We live in a world grappling with the ongoing effects of the Epstein files, threats of war, and the aftermath of COVID-19.

  • The prevalence of sexual misconduct, abuse, and unprocessed trauma continues to rise.

In the face of these realities, the need for attentiveness and care within our communities is more crucial than ever. This workshop offers us the opportunity to learn how to create safe and sacred spaces—both for those we serve and for ourselves as leaders.

This will be a time to:

  • Experience firsthand what trauma-informed care means in practice.

  • Deepen relationships with fellow pastoral leaders as we come together in person.

  • Learn practical tools to nurture safe and supportive environments in our congregations and gatherings.

Here is more information about the gathering.

This invitation is more than a meeting—it is a moment to come together as a community, to acknowledge the burdens of leadership, and to equip ourselves for the sacred work of healing and care. I encourage you to set aside this time to invest in your own well-being and in the well-being of the communities you serve.

In order to create space for shared experiences in pastoral leadership, this gathering is intended for those serving congregations, New Worshipping Communities, and validated ministries. Please RSVP by May8th, so we can plan appropriately for lunch and materials.

May God’s grace sustain you in your ministry, and may this time of gathering offer renewal and hope.

Be gentle with yourselves

Blessings,

Dee

Pre-Assembly Lunch & Learn
Apr

Pre-Assembly Lunch & Learn

Join us for a Pre-Assembly Lunch & Learn (Zoom) as we explore Mission Responsibility Through Investment (MRTI) and its connection to our Assembly theme, “Faithful Friction: Eradicating Systemic Poverty.”

MRTI is the PC(USA)’s ministry of faith-based investing—engaging corporations and financial systems in ways that reflect our values and advance justice. This gathering offers a meaningful introduction to how the church has faithfully used its investments as a tool for change over decades.

We are delighted to welcome Simon Doong and Katie Carter (Read Bios here) from the Associates for Corporate, Community & Church Engagement, Office of Faith-Based Investing & Shareholder Engagement, who will guide our conversation.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • What MRTI is and how it works

  • How our investments connect to the work of eradicating systemic poverty

  • How individuals, congregations, and presbyteries can engage faithfully and proactively with their financial resources

As we prepare for Assembly—where we will examine our own investments in our presbytery, churches, and personal lives—this conversation will help ground us. Talking about money can spark “faithful friction,” and MRTI offers a model for engaging that tension with purpose, courage, and hope.

We especially encourage treasurers, finance committee chairs, stewardship leaders, and endowment trustees to attend.

Grab your lunch, log in, and join us as we discover how stewardship and justice intersect through faith-based investing.

All are welcome!

Mission Responsibility Through Investment (MRTI) was created in recognition of the PC(USA)'s unique opportunity to advance its mission faithfully and creatively through the financial resources entrusted it. MRTI implements the General Assembly’s policies on socially responsible investing (also called faith-based investing) by engaging corporations in which the church owns stock.

OCTOBER Presbytery Assembly Gathering IN PERSON

October Presbytery Assembly: Conspiring…together for others | Acting on God’s abundance

Come Early to the October 28th Presbytery Assembly at Montview!

As we gather for our October Presbytery Assembly, we’re invited to open our eyes to the abundance of God already at work in our midst. Our guest leaders, De’Amon Harges and Rev. Mike Mather, will guide us in reflection and conversation rooted in Matthew 11:1–6, where Jesus points to the signs of God’s healing and good news emerging among those often overlooked—the blind, the lame, and the poor.

De’Amon and Mike will help us see how, when we act on God’s abundance and recognize the gifts already present in our people and neighborhoods, we become co-creators with God and one another in building communities of compassion, creativity, and shared flourishing. Through storytelling, small-group conversation, and active engagement, we’ll explore how listening deeply to one another can strengthen our witness and renew our sense of purpose.

Before the Assembly begins, we invite you to come early and meet Denver Presbytery’s mission partners—ministries and partnerships already embodying this kind of abundant, relational faith in action. These mission groups—supported by the Mission Engagement Committee (MEC)—are building local and global connections, strengthening communities, fostering economic empowerment, and sharing stories of hope and transformation.

This pre-Assembly time offers a chance to learn from their work, discover ways your congregation can connect, and celebrate how together we are co-conspirators with God in the healing and renewal of our world.

Come ready to connect, to be inspired, and to glimpse the kingdom of God breaking forth in the stories, relationships, and partnerships among us.

Rev. Fernando Rodríguez
Associate Presbyter for Mission

Pre-Assembly Conversation: what does it mean to be a good neighbor?

Pre-Assembly Conversation: what does it mean to be a good neighbor?

Dear Friends in Ministry,

As part of our 2025 theme—Courageously Conspiring Together—we invite you to a Pre-Assembly conversation with our Assembly speakers, Rev. Mike Mather (First UMC–Boulder) and De’Amon Harges (The Learning Tree–Indianapolis).

Why “Conspiring”?

To conspire literally means “to breathe together.”
This year we embrace that holy breath as an act of partnership and trust—a call to stand side-by-side, to listen deeply, and to risk action for the sake of God’s justice. As Sheri Fry reminds us, courageous conspiring is not secrecy for its own sake, but a positive force for change:

“It underscores the power of unity and the courage to place one’s faith in others, to act in good faith when the stakes are high.”

About the Workshop

Theme: Stop “Helping” People: What Does It Mean to Be a Good Neighbor?
Mike and De’Amon will challenge us to move beyond “helping” others and live into true neighborly solidarity—where abundant community, mutual trust, and shared breath create lasting transformation.

Details

  • Date & Time: Monday, October 27, 2025, 12:00–2:00 p.m.

  • Location: Denver Presbytery Office
4800 Happy Canyon Rd., Suite 140, Denver, CO

  • Lunch Provided

Pastors, mission leaders, covenant communities, and church mission committees are especially encouraged to attend this paradigm-shifting conversation.

Come breathe with us—partnering courageously, conspiring together for others.

We’d love to know if you are coming. Please register below so we can order lunch for everyone.

Interrupting Microaggressions: Moving from Awareness to Faithful Action

Interrupting Microaggressions: Moving from Awareness to Faithful Action

In our collective journey toward equity and inclusion, it's often the subtle, everyday interactions—the things unsaid or unconsciously implied—that can create the deepest divides. This interactive workshop is designed specifically for communities committed to DEI work and seeking to live out values of compassion, justice, and belonging in real and practical ways.

With a “no shame, no blame” approach, we’ll explore the concept of microaggressions: what they are, how they show up in both interpersonal and institutional contexts, and why they matter—especially in spaces rooted in care, service, and spiritual connection. Through real-life examples, guided reflection, and actionable tools, participants will learn how to recognize these often-invisible inequities and respond in ways that foster deeper understanding and connection.

We’ll provide a practical framework with language and confidence-building strategies to navigate difficult conversations with empathy and humility. This workshop offers a safe space to learn, grow, and take meaningful steps toward more inclusive and equitable faith communities.

*Note, participation at this workshop fulfills the anti-racism training requirement.

Information Session for 2026 Minimum Effective Salary

Introduction to 2026 Minimum Effective Salary

The Ministry Relations Committee is bringing forward a proposal to set the 2026 Minimum Effective Salary for ministers of Denver Presbytery at $71,000, aligning with the national PCUSA median effective salary. This recommendation reflects both the high cost of living in Denver and our ongoing commitment to ensuring that pastors are fairly compensated for their service and leadership.

This proposal will be presented for a vote at our Presbytery Assembly on Monday, October 28, 2025, at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church. In preparation, we invite all ministers, sessions, and congregational leaders to attend an informational Zoom session on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 11 AM, where the Ministry Relations Committee will provide background, walk through the details, and answer questions.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the proposal and its impact on your ministry context before the assembly gathers for action.
