Event Highlights
As we look at faithful friction : eradicating systemic poverty together, we must look at our own biases and responses to people with different economic backgrounds of our own
When we stop at a light and see someone on the corner of the street, what do we think? What do we feel? Do we turn away acting like we don't see them? Do we think I wish the city would clean these panhandlers off the streets? Do we frantically search in our car to give all the cash away, or turn away act like we are talking on the phone because we don't have any to share? Do we think I can’t give money they will scam me, use it for alcohol or drugs? Why don't they just work like the rest of us? Or even hope God notices how benevolent we are?
All of these are very real human responses, and in a very open compassionate exploration, we will explore those covert biases and maybe those just below the surface. Because these thoughts, biases, and beliefs impact our actions in how we work to eradicate systemic poverty. It also impacts our tonality and ways we reach out and provide care through mission and various outreaches.
In addition to welcoming back our wonderful Iliff team of Jeni and Jon to lead us in worship, they will also have a larger generative time for us to explore this in depth together. And during our lunch we will be breaking into smaller tables by topics of various outreaches around the presbytery from food insecurities, to immigrant outreaches, to those without homes, to the PDA approach and model for disaster response, as well as our international relationships.
We look forward to gathering together for worship, fellowship, and shared discernment.
